The Author
“People in bars and cafés often notice me
writing in notebooks or on napkins.
Sometimes they'll ask,
‘What kind of poems do you write?’
That's when I drop the pen
and look them square in the eye.
‘I write silent music for the soul.‘”

The Style
Ron Gavalik's poetry and stories are reminiscent of the raw works of Charles Bukowski, Allen Ginsberg, and Ezra Pound. Raised by hard-boiled Catholic trade unionists in the Rust Belt of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Gavalik paints words in an uninhibited style that reflects the once gritty region. In total freedom, he bleeds untamed language onto the page that captures the power of the truthful moments in life. His whiskey-soaked free verse reveals the hidden beauty often lost within the madness of our struggles.
